Enlightenment Defended
Politics • Spirituality/Belief • Culture
Enlightenment Defended will repel the dark nihilism of “post-truth”, woke culture, identity politics, and political correctness. It will catalyse the bright flame of the enlightenment —liberty, reason and progress.

Enlightenment Defended will create an open realm of vigorous philosophical debate through animation, documentaries, poetry, humour, music and myth. People are many-sided in both apprehension and enjoyment.

International Challenges to the Enlightenment. Episode 1, Part 7. Ray on China, Ronald Coase, Karl Popper & the Enlightenment. (2nd half).

Chinese society is not communist in Marx's sense of centrally planned production with no market in factors of production. There is a market in factors of production. Marxism as a real project in China is dead. Tacitly, the CCP knows this. However, in some contexts, for example, education, Marxism is held sacrosanct.

The dogmatic teaching of Marxism in Chinese universities has cultivated a habit of thought, which has survived Marxism itself. Students acquire the mentality to frame truth in general as final, complete, permanent, and authoritative.

But, as Karl Popper has taught us, the growth of empirical knowledge is exactly the opposite; it is provisional, incomplete, and conjectural, and never-ending. It also requires contending voices.

It is this dogmatic ethos, driven by the Chinese Communist Party, that holds China's people back from taking a quantum step up in production across the board, from material goods and services to a flourishing in cultural and artistic innovation. The Chinese people are not by nature mere copiers; when given freedom, they are wonderful fountains of new ideas they can call their own. I conjecture that the whole world is missing out on a superabundance of wealth that would emanate from the unshackling of the Chinese people.
